Two Griffon Vultures electrocuted in Kresna Gorge

On June 21st LIFE for Kresna Gorge team found two Griffon Vultures electrocuted in two subsequent days at different electrical pylons in Kresna Gorge. The birds are second year immatures, that were passing through the area during their migrations and summer roaming.
Unfortunately electrocution has proven to be among the main killers of the vultures released within the Vultures Return
and Life for Kresna Gorge Projects and since 2010 we have counted over 32 casualties. This is why the recently started Vultures Back to LIFE14 NAT/BG/649 Project provides a specific action for isolating the dangerous pylons, hoping to prevent further losses from electrocution.

The local electricity providing company CEZ Razpredelenie Bulgaria AD has shown will to cooperate so urgent measures have been undertaken to safeguard the power line in question. On June 28th the pylon- killer near the village of Rakitna was isolated. FWFF team provided perch discouragers for installment.
