A risky power line passing through Kresna Gorge was safeguarded

Kresna Gorge, 15th March 2018- Fund for Wild Flora and Fauna has collaborated to the local electricity providing company CEZ in order to safeguard very risky electric pylons in Kresna Gorge. The pylon- killers is a part of very risky power line passing through Kresna Gorge which has killed few Griffon vultures.
The pylons were successfully isolated or discouragers for bird’s perching were installed. The insolation consumables were provide to CEZ Company from the project Bright future for Black vulture LIFE14 NAT/BG/000649, implemented by FWFF and Green Balkans. The CEZ team has collaborated with expertise, technology and labour.
Since 2010 in the frame of “LIFE for Kresna Gorge” and “Bright future for Black vulture”, financed by EU LIFE+ Program, about 50 Griffon vultures have been released in Kresna Gorge and a new local colony was established. Hundreds of vultures from colonies in Macedonia, Greece, Croatia and Serbia are being attracted from Kresna’s colony and, after illegal poisoning; the electrocution seems to be the second major threat for local or migrated birds.
